The US Department of Transportation along with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and Federal Aviation Administration announced an emergency order to ban all the Samsung Note 7 Smartphone devices from the air transportation of United States. Anyone who possesses or owns the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is not allowed to transport this device on their person, in checked baggage or in carry-on baggage to, from or within the United states. The device is also gets banned from being shipped as air cargo. This ban will get active from October 15, 2016, at noon ET. Transport secretary Antony Foxx said that this ban of the device on the flight can cause inconvenience to the passengers but for now the safety of passengers is their top priority. The US has taken this crucial step because even a single fire device incident on the plane can put many lives at risk. US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Samsung acknowledged this safety hazard with the company’s October 13, 2016, recalls. Samsung has already suspended the sale and manufacture of the Note 7 device from October 11, 2016.
What air travelers should know?
– All the passengers who try to travel with their Note 7 device by air will be denied boarding.
– Anyone who tries to violate this ban will be subject to criminal prosecution along with additional fine.
– Passengers currently having the Note 7 devices should immediately contact Samsung for the replacement of the device. Samsung has already given the guidance regarding the return and replacement of the Galaxy notes 7 devices.
– Airlines passengers can directly deny the carry of Note 7 on the flight if they find any passenger with the Galaxy note 7 in their luggage.
Under the Federal Hazardous Material Regulations, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is considered as the forbidden device and thus it forbids the airline crews or passengers from carrying the portable electronic devices with the lithium cells or batteries as these are likely to generate the dangerous evolution heat.
