Great news for twitter lovers as twitter has now officially announced its new ‘simpler’ rule that loosened the reins on its 140- character limit. According to the tweet made by social network on Monday all the videos, photos, GIFs and polls will no longer be count toward your total character in the tweet. While replying to the tweet, @names will not be included in the character count. This will let the users add more media to their posts. No official date for the change is yet announced but according to the reports it will come into effect next Monday. Earlier twitter announces that link will also be omitted from the character count but in the recent announcement, nothing has been confirmed about it. A link takes up to 23 characters on Twitter even after its automatic shortening. Twitter has designed new Tweet rules to make the conversations more intuitive and faster that will make services simpler for the users. Twitters originally introduced 140-character service to ensure that a tweet can be sent easily as a mobile text message that has a 160-character limit. This new simpler rule will make tweets more expressive than before and enable people to say or express more instantly on social media.
“We’re not giving up on the idea of Twitter being in the moment. That concept of brevity, speed, and live conversation – being able to think of something and put it out to the world instantly – that’s what’s most important,” said Twitter boss Jack Dorsey.
Earlier it was rumored that Twitter’s chief executive Jack Dorsey wants to extend the character limit up to 10,000 but the news was met with a backlash from users. After this rumor reported in January, the price of company’s share also gets plummeted up to 2%. According to Jack Dorsey, 140-character limit is a beautiful constraint that can inspire creativity and brevity. Jack Dorsey further admitted that majority of the tweets will always be sweet, short and conversational. Another great thing is that @mentions will not count toward the 140 and one can mention up to 50 people in a tweet. Users who want everyone to see their reply can use the retweet yourself feature. All this means that if the user writes any tweet that starts with @username that’s like, not technically a reply so it will be seen by everyone. Users who want to show their tweets to everyone even when they don’t follow both parties can use the dot or period before @username to make that happen. As these new changes are going to impact hundreds of thousands of products built on Twitter’s platform, Twitter has offered a grace period to developers while developers transition their products.
