United States has raised an alarm over an end-to-end encryption of the messages from WhatsApp. They told that having a strong encryption will not provide any cyber safe havens to the child pornographers and terrorists.
The White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest said that:” It (WhatsApp decision) doesn’t change our policy or our view of how the federal government and the technology industry can and should be able to work together to ensure that strong encryption can be robustly deployed without giving terrorists or child pornographers or other bad actors a safe haven in cyberspace”
He also added that work is being done together along with app for fighting towards the cyber crimes like those of child pornography. He also noted that, this means they need a policy which can easily adapt along with it. Such innovations are quite healthy…
In response to a question, Earnest said that:” There are areas where we’ve been able to work together to get this done, including fighting things like child pornography. And hopefully when it comes to keeping the American people safe from terrorism, we should be able to work together to stop that, too.”
As per the WhatsApp, they said in a blog post: ” “Encryption is one of the most important tools, governments, companies and individuals have to promote safety and security in the new digital age. Recently there has been a lot of discussion about encrypted services and the work of law enforcement.” Besides this, they also confirmed that the end-to-end encrypted messages can only be read by intended recipients, not others… and Watsapp is absolutely not giving any kind of safe heavens for cyber crimes.
