Recently, Pope Francis has joined one of the social networking sites are known as “Instagram”.
Within 24 hours of launching his new account, he had hit one million followers on that site. He had opened his new account on March 19 with a profile photo as kneeling in prayer.
Pope and social networking site –
- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg welcomed the 266th and the current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, as he joined the network site.
- Zuckerberg said that he was looking forward to following the Pope. He made his debut on Instagram saying “Franciscus”.
- As we all know that Instagram was acquired by Facebook in the year 2012 for $1 billion cash and was launched in October 2010 which was created by Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom.
- This photo sharing site had over 300 million in the year 2014. The message which was accompanied “pray for me” in nine different languages which were not a selfie.
- Zuckerberg also wrote on Facebook that, “No matter what faith you practice, we can all be inspired by Pope Francis’s humility and compassion.”
- He said that he was willing to follow Pope which would continue sharing his message of equality, justice and mercy to the world.
- The official Vatican account is separate from the Instagram account and it will be maintained by the members of the Vatican.
- The main reason for Pope’s joining the account was to unite people across different cultures and languages.
- Pope’s first photo to Instagram was an incredible moment which would leave a lasting remark.
- Pope was marked as an embrace of social media to communicate with followers around the world.
- Joining Instagram was a particularly smart move according to Pope, the platform will be now quickly gaining more popularity in various countries with a large Catholic presence such as Mexico, France, Italy and Brazil.
