Google Says No To Sidebar Ads

Google has been constantly making changes to its ad structure and the latest has been the deletion of the side ads.

A quick look into the new Google Ads

    • Earlier, a search query generated 3 top sponsored ads and that has been increased to 4 ads on top.
    • The right side ads have been completely taken down.
    • The search engine result page will have newly added 4 promotional ads on the bottom of the page.
    • Natural organic results will come below the fold.

Concerns have raised on whether these slight changes will affect the ads greatly. One thing that is known is that with 4 ads in the place of 3 sponsored ads, the click through rate for the ads will be reduced from the previous rates. The click throughs will be shared with 4 ads instead of the 3 top ads. But there is also the advantage that there will be no side ads that will compete with the top ads for click throughs.

The right ads were not significantly receiving much clicks as it was mostly neglected by the users. So the level of increase in clicks won’t be rather significant enough with the removal of the side ads. But this removal has lead to lesser dispersal of the ads. But with an added ad on the top of the SERP, the CTR is ought to be affected.

Some concerns have been raised that the organic top rankers will be pushed too low with this addition of an extra ad. But some analyze that people who do not want to look at the ads will scroll down to see the organic results and sometimes much down to reach the third or fourth organic rank results. Now this might be a matter of concern for the first rankers who have gained this level with much difficulty.

The actual outcome of this change will be analyzed and reported soon in detail.
