Andrey Lipattsev, from Google, confirmed last week that Google’s important factor for ranking is are links. As RankBrain, which is Google’s brand new bot that specializes in machine learning, follows the basic principle where the content in a website and its links are given first priority for ranking.

Here are some tips to get your website to the top of the list:

Automatic Links are to be avoided

All those links that are created automatically, in bulk are basically useless as they do not contribute to pulling your website to the top in Google search ranking algorithm and it’s better for you to get rid of them or else use “rel=nofollow” attribute if you want to avoid penalty.

You get less benefit if the link is easy to get

It states that if the link is easy to get or create, then it would not provide any big positive contribution to get your website at the top of the list. As for example, if you upload a picture on google photos and just link that to your website, that link would hardly have any effect on the ranking.

    Play Smart, Not Hard

It is quite often that most webmasters want only links from certain pages which have a particular PageRank. You should know that it is completely useless and outdated technique. Truth being, such step only makes it more complicated and difficult to build links to your website.

Even if a “high quality” website is linked to your website, it does not make your website get any better google PageRank.

If a new page is added by a good quality website, then also the newly created website will hold an initial zero link power.

On the other hand, a page with link power – zero now, may have a very high link strength later.
