Emojis No Longer In Google PLA’s

Google has launched a new Product Listing Ad that allows searches to narrow down their image search. For every few months, Google ramps up testing in both Product Listing Ads and AdWords. Since January Product, Listing Ads have been updating with new changes.

Google has updated the Store name guidelines wherein listings cannot include emojis. A huge variety of emojis were being used while experimenting using on-theme emojis to promote their listings.

    Here is how they appeared:

The newly updated guidelines state that emojis is no longer permitted.

It is the first time that Google has placed PLAs on image search results, which is a perfect visual complement to the search results. As a part of image search redesign, Google has never seemed to gain popularity. The new PLAs in image search are better suitable than the text ads.

    Expandable PLAs-

Google is now testing for an expandable PLA in the search results which means the standard PLA expands to 16 individual product listings, right from the search results page.

    Emojis in PLA display URL-

Advertisers can now add emojis to display the URL of PLA. This is a trick in both the organic search results and AdWords. But Google has closed the loophole for two months.

The ability to show emojis in PLA is deliberate if no-emoji missed PLAs. Emojis that include both full color and single color will display differently depending on the Operating system and browser.

For advertisers, it seems to be sensed that emojis will complement the product. Advertisers need to add emoji to the name settings within the merchant settings, in order to show emojis in PLAs.

It is always great to see Google continue to test and innovate with both AdWords and Product Listing Ads since it gives advertisers new and interesting ways of targeting their customers.
