A new game called Breakaway has been introduced by the Amazon that has been built to support Twitch. This game shows the Amazon’s continuous investment in the gaming. Along with Breakaway two other games Crucible and New World are launched by the company. All these three games are directed towards the streaming and streamers. Breakaway is based on the theme of mythological sports brawler where four champions compete to get the ball. Breakaway has become the first game of the world that is going to use the new currency launched by the popular streaming site Twitch. Both the currency and the game called stream+ were launched in San Diego at Twitchcon. According to Amazon Game Studio, the Stream+ will integrate directly with Breakaway and the players can earn the currency by watching online matches and can use those coins to bet on the result.
Breakaway is created by Killer Instinct developer Double Helix Games and it combines basics of League of Legends and Dota 2 along with the elements of the cult hit Rocket League and tower defense games. Players can build structures like catapults on the maps, before the two teams meet, hurl magic and try to drive a relic to an enemy’s base for points. All the heroes are inspired from the real world mythology, including Spartacus, Vlad the Impaler and Arthurian enchantress Morgan Le Fay. All these fit perfectly into the archetypes we see in MOBAs offering DPS, support and tank roles. Amazon bought Twitch for $1 billion in 2014 that explains well why Breakaway will be the first game to use Stream+. It is still not described by the Twitch and Amazon that how this new currency will be used as doesn’t know with what the currency would be exchanged by.
Breakaway features some new features for streamers to interact with Twitch users:
– With Metastream, streamers can customize their broadcast with real-time stats overlays.
– Broadcaster Match Builder also allows broadcasters to invite their followers so that they can also join their matches.
– Broadcaster Spotlight adds more excitement to the streaming as makes the players aware about the broadcast and also let the follow the broadcaster.
Other two games New World and crucible are also very interesting. New World is a multiplayer and open-ended sandbox game that makes the players carves out their destiny in a cursed land. Crucible is a game of battle of the last survival person on an alien planet.
