Recently, a claim has been made by French video blogger according to which, YouTube tried to censor her video of an interview with European Commission head Jean-Claude Junker. In response to that YouTube India makes a statement that video-sharing website YouTube does not censor any content but rather it relies on consumers’ flagging off issues and accordingly takes actions on the basis of its “strong community guidelines”. YouTube mentioned that they have very strong community guidelines. YouTube rely on users flagging off that seemed inappropriate according to the company. Right kind of action against any content will be taken when it seems inappropriate or against the YouTube’s community guidelines. Reporters have recently asked Satya Raghavan, the Head entertainment Content of YouTube India in Kolkata that how they handle or deal with the inappropriate content and are they planning to restrict these inappropriate contents to be shown on YouTube in the future.
In response to that Satya Raghavan said that we do not censor any content on YouTube as we try to rely on the wisdom of masses to flag-off anything. He further added that we work on a truly democratic platform. Satya Raghavan also mentioned that our website does not demonetize videos with controversial topics. According to YouTube India, they have realized or seen that some of the videos are inappropriate and not fit for advertisers. So they definitely turn off these videos at times. Recently, the Indian government has also made some specific requests but Raghavan declined to comment on that. Every website has to follow some rules and regulations of the government and YouTube also takes into consideration all the requests the local government. There are lots of things and places where the law is important and that’s where YouTube works with local government where there are specific requests. We hope that YouTube India work according to the specifications of local government and try to maintain good video content on YouTube.
