Snapchat Spectacles
Spectacles act as an extension to the central element of the Snapchat app that shares images and short-form videos. Snapchat currently has around 150 million active users who daily remain active on Snapchat with the primary cohort within the age range of 12 to 24 year. It is reported that more than 79 percent of the Snapchat users daily share videos and pictures. There is a huge amount of cognitive load and mechanical load to capture the in-the-moment images and videos. It takes only 12 to 45 seconds mostly to get to the Snapchat on your Android device or iPhone. Newly launched Spectacles has solved the biggest problem of capturing in-the-moment images and videos and sharing them quickly. Spectacles simply do not pretend to offer something else more than a new format of capturing images and videos.
Google Glass
Google Glass was invented with no primary problem to solve rather it was an appendage to the Android device. The photo and video aspect of the Google Glass could have supercharged if the price range was in the $199 area. Because of the $1000 plus price tag, the primary cohort for glass was in the range of 30 to 60 years old who are very likely to be technology early adopters. This cohort adapts the new device but also grows disenchanted with the limitations. Wearing Google Glass makes the user self-identified as the overly wealthy person.
Snapchat vs. Google
Snapchat Spectacles act as the single purpose appliance with the deep connection to the rich history of success. Google tried to solve many genuine problems which later turned out to be actual problems when the device existed. Snapchat is now also moving in the direction of Google Glass in few terms with the addition of beam forming microphones and near-ear speakers for the voice interactions. It is expected that in the next 10 years, around 50 percent of the computer interactions will be through AI-assisted voice interactions. Snapchat Spectacles is expected to slowly move in the Google Glass direction primarily through the voice OS as it first voice device.
