A cluster of eight renowned institutes is eagerly working on a dream pilot project of Microsoft. Microsoft’s dream to expand the internet to every house of rural India has started taking shape. The different institutes are separately doing several experiments to make the ambitious project a reality.
The analysis
The project was proposed by “Satya Nadella” CEO of Microsoft. Satya defined it and endeavored project as a part of company’s global connectivity. The CEO said, “Over half the people on earth can’t go online. More than 4 billion can’t access the internet due to lack of infrastructure and even it’s out of their pocket reach.”
The TV White Spaces technology is a tremendous opportunity which can be helpful in bringing revolution in this particular aspect.
Professor Dababrata Das of IIT Bangalore is playing a crucial role in developing prototypes by keeping in mind the uninterrupted flow of frequency.
The most probable solution
The project will be on the testing level in six states and a frequency band 470-582 MHz will be used. The TVWS technology will be used for this project; actually, television networks leave gaps between channels usually used for the buffering process. This space is similar to the technique which is used for delivering 4G by using the broadband network.
The testers got an installment of ‘Rs 20’ lakh from Microsoft for testing frequency availability in urban and rural areas of Bangalore.
The government in the second week of March provided a deck clearance to all involved institutes for testing purposes.
The pilot project will be helpful for providing an access to the internet in any corner of the world.
Microsoft has put a step forward towards connectivity business by plotting this specific project. The company has multiple future aspects saved in its kitty to be implemented. Those projects will be revealed after the success of this particular ambitious project.
