The homegrown auto major company Mahindra and Mahindra is going for a bigger play in the segment of the electric vehicle as it plans to launch a new electric version of its currently existing conventional engine models. Mahindra Electric which is the part of the Mahindra group has made an announcement on Monday regarding the launch of its latest electric car ‘e2oPlus’ that costs between Rs. 6.73 lakh and Rs. 9.51 lakh. The company is also planning to further expand its electric vehicle portfolio in the country. Mahindra and Mahindra Director Pawan Goenka told reporters, as the leaders in the integrated and electric mobility solutions in the country, it has always been their endeavour to make the electric vehicles more accessible to the segments. On asking by a reporter that whether the company would also offer the electric variants of its existing conventional models, he said that there could be a possibility. Mahindra and Mahindra group is continuously looking to expand it electric vehicle portfolio and also looking to offer the electric version of all its existing models. The current models of the company like Scorpio are very heavy and thus require heavy batteries. For this company is currently working on a new technology that can deliver up to 80 kW of power. With the completion of e2oPlus the company has completed its entry-level electric vehicle line up and the next segment for the company is to get into the mid and higher segment.
New Vehicle with Italian design
Director of Mahindra and Mahindra Group said that now the company is planning for a new vehicle with the Italian design Pininfarina as the company has acquired it in the year 2015 and there is a possibility of an all-electric vehicle. This project is not yet approved by the company and it may take 2-3 years to come out, but it is definite that this vehicle will be an all-electric vehicle. The electric vehicle portfolio of M&M includes light commercial models and small cars such as e2o, eSupro, and eVerito.
Four Variants of e2oPlus
The e20Plus car of M&M has 4 variants P2, P4, P6, and P8. The company has currently not disclosed its price for its e2o variant of the car. The P8 is priced at Rs. 9.51 lakh, P6 at Rs. 7.31 lakh and P4 at Rs. 6.73 lakh. The e2oPlus vehicle comes with the range of 140 km and can achieve the top speed of 85 km/h. The company said that they have done 4 launches this year and it will continue to keep doing this more and more in future.
