In the age of rapid technological advancement when a new technology is popping out from somewhere in the world every day, communication has become extremely crucial; especially the communication of computer data – download and upload of ‘0’ and ‘1’ that form every digital data. And when the word ‘worldwide communication’ is concerned it is absurd to not associate The Internet with it. The Internet connects a person to everything and everywhere in the world. While his actual presence may be marked by precise longitude and latitude combination, his virtual presence is everywhere around the globe, accessible to everyone who is in search for it. But with coming age, when the requirement of the amount of data to be transferred has increased, there is a need for faster, more reliable and more secure ways to transfer this Internet data.
Google Fiber is a popular and much awaited (among techies especially) Internet and TV providing service of Google that uses optic fibers instead of traditional copper wires for the transmission of digital data. The digital data is first converted into light signals which can be transmitted through transparent optic fibers by using ‘Total Internal Reflection’ principles of Optical Physics which results in blazing speeds of up to 1 Gigabyte per second! With a speed of 1 Gigabyte per second, a full HD 1080p movie could be downloaded well under five minutes!
How and when can I get Google Fiber?
Since Google uses special optic fibers instead of typical wires for transmission, and also require a certain pre-existing network infrastructure in that area for the installation of Google Fiber, only a few handfuls of areas in the US can avail this service at present. Google Fiber isn’t available outside the US as of today. In the US, Kansas City, and the surrounding suburbs can get a Fiber installation any time they want. Though Google has announced to expand its Fiber domain by rolling out its services to Texas, Utah, Provo and Austin in near future. Those not living in any of these areas can do nothing but wait until Google Fiber is available near them.
