Video streaming to be made local
The European Commission has proposed to On-demand video service subscribers that 20 % of their catalogues must be made local. These catalogues are those that are offered to the European Union Subscribers.
The European Commission has also called for provisions of video streaming service locally with a good visibility. It is said that this call is more likely to affect the video service provider giants such as Netflix and Amazon. Well, it is not sure whether the move is going to have any actual impact or not. According to few experts, it is said that this move will not affect the US based Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
The proposal is given by the European Union’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive.
Measures Given by EU Commission’s Proposal
Apart from this call many other measures are also directed by the proposal. These are as follows.
- Video services providers such as You Tube should make measures to restrict the content for under age users. The quality of videos being played should be overhauled for minors. Any content that actually promotes hatred should never be published.
- EU has also proposed a call to use new symbols. Such symbols must be able to warn the minor users about content that can have any harm. Such content can be related to use of drugs, sex or even it can be violent in nature.
- TV Broadcasters should also review their policy to show advertisements. There must be proper time for exhibiting each kind of the advertisement.
Experts said that such proposals are not difficult to accept. They will also not have any impact. This is because many broadcasting channels actually use the content made by BBC. It is also said that this will affect Netflix positively as it can remove the least watched European Union material.
