With driverless cars being the heat of the moment, Chinese manufacturers are up to prove that they are nowhere lagging behind from the likes of Tesla and Google.

Till date, innovation came mostly from The Silicon Valley, yet this year, it’s the Chinese manufacturers who are really pushing the boundaries.

According to BBC news, Professor David Bailey, from Aston Business School, who is also an expert on cars, tells that there is much more going on under the hood in China than what the people of the west have realized.

    The Companies to play big

      • Changan: Over 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) was driven by 2 driverless cars from the company HQ to Beijing just by using Radar and cameras and completed the trip in 6 days. The firm claimed that the car was able to keep and change lanes as required, interpret and follow traffic sign, voice control, and automatic cursing.

      • BMW and Baidu: The Chinese tech company Baidu cooperated with the famous German company, BMW to get their first driverless car to drive over 30 kilometers through the Beijing Traffic. It could manage a range of maneuvers which included lane changing, merging into the traffic, and U-turns.

    • Volvo and Geely: Volvo, a Swedish car manufacturer claims about its plans for testing a hundred driverless cars in public in normal everyday conditions. Volvo has been testing driverless cars in UK and Sweden for some time now.

    The Conclusion

Contrary to popular belief that there are innovation and research on self-driving vehicles only in the Silicon Valley in the USA, it now seems that many other prosperous country’s manufacturers and companies are trying their best to get into the race.

Many of the trials being conducted by the new and emerging Chinese companies are being pretty successful and sometimes even more successful than even some of the Silicon Valley companies.
