A Canada based company Blackberry to launch two mid-range flagship Android smartphones in the future.
In an interview with The National, company CEO John Chen said BlackBerry plans to launch two more follow ups to their first Android offering, but didn’t offer a window for those release dates. However, then does go on to say that one of the phones will sport just a touchscreen, while the other will resemble the blackberry Priv(with keyboard feature) more, in that it will also have a QWERTY keyboard. And while specs were kept off the table, he did add that both phones would be priced anywhere between US $300 to $400, that is Rs 20,000 to Rs 26,000 give or take a few hundred.
The price of the priv in US was (Rs 46,000), the price tag in India was a significantly higher Rs 62,990, so company can expect the India prices for the new next phones to be closer to Rs 36,000 – Rs 42,000. BlackBerry has always prided and happy itself on it’s phone design, marketing the device to enterprises and businessmen with a steep price tag. However, as evidenced by the price tag on the Priv being lowered from $699 to $649. This fact, combined with BlackBerry’s steadily dwindling sales numbers, is likely why the company is now trying to market to a mid-range customer. The previous smartphone blackberry priv was so expensive then the company planned a launch a budget friendly smartphone for a mid range customer.
In an interview with the Middle Eastern site The National, BlackBerry CEO John Chen detailed the company’s plans for the future. If you haven’t been following along, BlackBerry is now an Android OEM, having launched the BlackBerry Priv at the end of 2015. Priv was much super smartphone with amazing performance. Now the company is going to try a pair of “mid-range” Android devices in india.
Chen told The National that “A lot of enterprise customers have said to us, ‘I want to buy a blackberry phone , but $700 is a little too steep for me. I’m more interested in a $400 device.'” The report says BlackBerry plans “to launch two mid-range Android handsets this year, one with a physical keyboard and one with a full touchscreen.”
